Cold Mornings
Just pure Rain & Aether fluff.
Rains elements have been messing around since he’s was summoned, waking up so cold he searches for Dew as his warmth. He ends up meeting up with another Ghoul instead..

Every morning was the same for Rain.
Feet rubbing together to create any warmth from the rough friction, no luck with that. Pulling the blanket over his head was their last resort of gaining heat.
Even with his desperate attempt to get warm, his whole body still felt like a whole pack of ice. Tossing the covers onto the floor, Rain dragged himself out of his king sized bed, feet touching the cold wooden floor, was it really this cold or was Rain’s Elements acting up all of a sudden ? Rain frowned to himself, he didn’t know if he had the energy to make his way to their wanted destination if it was going to feel like the Arctic all the way there.
As rain sat on the edge of his bed he started to remember how much he enjoyed the fire ghouls cuddles. Dew’s warmer than average body temperature never failed to keep him toasty on those horribly cold winter mornings in which Rain never wanted to get out of bed. The thought alone got the Ghoul stretching his legs, walking towards his door, grabbing his glasses on the way out. The world didn’t seem so foggy now he had put them on, finding Dew’s room would be a lot easier now. The fire Ghoul’s room was only a couple doors down from Rain’s, it wouldn’t be that much of an adventure for him.
Rain approached the handle to his door. He walked out of his room and began walking down the hall . The water ghoul noticed Aether was walking towards him, coming back from the kitchen he guessed as he had a cup in one hand and some bread in the other. He gave Aether a small smile as a silent morning to him. Rain noticed he always felt a strange pit in their stomach with every conversation that was just the two of them, so maybe this would be the only interaction they would have this morning he hoped. Aether grinned back, showing all his sharp fangs, eyes crinkling too. He stood there for a minute looking around the hall to see if Rain was supposed to be meeting someone or maybe he was just lost.
Aether often spotted Rain walking around the ministry slowly, eyes searching everywhere. With the water ghoul still being quite new, Aether could feel the confusion steaming off of them. It made him feel a little bad for the Ghoul, he remembers what it was like to be brand new to the pack, trying to remember all the rooms and everyone’s names.
Aether motioned with his head for Rain to come closer to him, he always loved giving out help when it was needed. With him walking closer, he could feel Rain’s heartbeat quicken. It made him smile to themself, this would definitely be something he would tease the ghoul about in a couple of weeks.
Rain stood right in front of Aether, fidgeting awkwardly, they couldn’t find the courage to look the ghoul in the eyes.
“Hey there Rainy” Aether muttered, not wanting to wake everybody else up. He sometimes forgot how early he woke up in the mornings. “You lost or ?” He questioned.
“ Aether ! no i was actually going to Dew’s room, thank you though for the concern” Rain had practically word vomited the whole sentence out, eyes burning holes into the floor for how much he stared there. He internally kicked himself for always making himself look like a weirdo in front of Aether.
“Dew? Well you won’t find him this morning, he’s busy with Papa working on a solo for the upcoming rituals. We’re lucky his office is so far away we’re not able to hear it from here” The ghoul informed Rain.
Rain stood silent for a second, he felt stupid for just assuming the fire ghoul would be free every time he needed hugs. Even more so he’d embarrassed themselves in front of Aether.
The silence lasted a couple minutes until Aether interrupted with a cough. As much as he would love to chat with Rain, his coffee was starting to cool. An idea struck the ghouls head, it also would be a great way to know more about the new ghoul.
Before he could give out his idea he noticed how Rain had started shaking and had his arms wrapped around his shoulders, hugging himself tight. The cold didn’t particularly affect Aether but he did know Water ghouls felt the low temperature much more than the average ghoul. Knowing Rain was extremely cold, made the reasoning for him needing Dew make much more sense to them now.
“Oh Rainy my love, you’re cold aren’t you ?” The sudden pet name made the ghoul whip his head up, eyes making full contact with Aether’s for a quick second before immediately losing the battle and going back to the floor. Mouth and tongue gone completely dry, he gave a simple nod as a response. He had honestly forgotten the reason why he left his room, he was so focused on Aether.
Aether continued to talk. “How about you come stay in my room ? I’d feel too bad letting you go back to your room if you’re this chilly” Smiling warmly at Rain, he left the decision up to him. After a small pause, he finally got another slow nod as a response. I need to get him relaxed so he’ll open up more.
“Great ! My room is just back up here.” He pointed back up to where Rain had walked down from. “And stop being so nervous Rainy, I’m not gonna bite you..unless you ask.” Aether teased as he began to walk past the Ghoul frozen in place.
The walk was only small, with Aether’s room being two doors down from Rain’s, he’d keep that in mind. The Quintessence Ghoul managed to open the door without even touching the handle, this was probably something that came with his element Rain thought to themselves.
The room itself made the water ghouls’ hands go back to his side just by looking around it, the need to hug himself for warmth had gone. A lit fireplace in the far back side with ancient books stacked, a few empty jars, two or three filled with what seemed like shells and maybe a few crystals. Looking around more, its eyes fell onto Aether’s bed, eyes immediately drooping by how cozy it looked. Blankets, thick and fluffy practically drowning out the sight of the mattress, pillows the size of huge marshmallows propped at the top of the bed.
Sleep had finally taken over, this coming from waking up so early this morning, he stood near the end of the bed, fiddling with the railings. Aether caught onto what he wanted to ask, but already guessed he would just have to answer without even being asked.
“You can get in Rain, I can see you falling asleep” Aether chuckled quietly, not wanting to wake the Ghoul fully back up. Rain gave a small sigh followed by a thank you. Though Aether wasn’t sure of the reaction to his next question. “Is it cool if I join you? I do normally have my breakfast in bed heh” He signalled to his cup of coffee,bread had already been scoffed while Rain was looking around, If it was anyone else their drink would have been completely cold at this rate (except Dew). Aether had his powers to thank for that
Rain’s eyes went wide with realisation that his slow form had taken the time out of the other Ghouls morning. It started to flap their hands about in a panicked motion. “Oh Satanas, I am so sorry Aeth. I didn’t mean for this to take so long and please of course, this is your room and bed after all” He started to move over to the covers, lifting them up and slipping his slender body into the right side, opening a gap for Aether to join. A small smile and a pat on the mattress got him rushing to put his cup down and entering the bed after Rain.
Once both comfy, Rain finally had the courage to look Aether in the eyes, the first official time since their meeting in the corridor this morning. He used up the time of his new found confidence to really study their face. They started from the top, with the flicks of gold meshing with his white curls, to the shine in his bourbon eyes. He then moved onto the jagged scar on the right side on his squishy cheek, Rain was curious as to how such a big scar had gotten on their face, Aether didn’t seem like the type to fight.
Finally moving onto the bottom of the face, the ghouls lips. Plump and slightly damp,I definitely would remember a kiss with him. The swipe of Aethers tongue was what brought Rain out of his intense stare and thoughts on the guy.
The creeping blush upon Aethers cheeks was evidence that he had noticed the loving stare. There was still a twang of guilt that maybe it had made the ghoul uncomfortable, but with Aethers next move, it had completely thrown that thought out of the window. The water ghoul was suddenly pulled right up against the Quintessence ghouls side, the immediate warmth he ejected made them let out a quiet whine of comfort. His eyes rolling back towards his head as his eyelids dropped, This is what I needed Rain thought happily to himself. All the shaking and shuddering that came from the morning cold had gone, it felt like the contact with Aether’s body and his fingertips grazing the top of his head had all the weakness being pulled straight out of his now fuzzy body. Definitely another part of Aether’s elements. Even with Rain only being here for a month, he felt like this right here, with this certain Ghoul..was Home.
“My sweet Rainy, you’re practically melting, Dew is gonna be busy these few mornings so my door will be unlocked just for you” The silence was interrupted with Aethers low mumble. A small cat-like trill was all he got back in response, they carried on the scratching on the ghouls head, finally emitting a rumble of purrs from Rain. Exactly what he wanted. Aeth felt proud of being able to use his powers to drag out the low temperature in him, he also managed to take the nerves out of the water ghoul too. They knew it would appreciate the added gesture, Aether wanted to see the Real and relaxed Rain and it seems he had finally achieved it.
The fire went from a high flame to barely visible, almost about to go out, heat still wrapping around the two ghouls. It had been a couple hours, Aether had lulled Rain to sleep finally, body still vibrating from his purrs. The ghoul figured the long hours of sleep was needed for Rain, he gave it the time they needed. Letting him wake up when he wanted to.
After a while of the two ghouls napping together, the water ghoul awoke. Sleepily opening his eyes only to see aether still purring by his side, a small smile painted on their face, nose twitching every now and again. Rain had to fight the urge to stifle his giggle, obviously failing as Aethers eyes shot open to shoot a side eyed glance over to Rain.
“That’s the second time I’ve caught you staring today Rainy, What’s so funny, hm? Aether teased while wrapping his pudgy arm again around the slim ghoul who he had lost full eye contact with again.
“I, uh” Having been caught, Rain struggled to articulate an excuse, with a sigh he gave up. “Did you know you uh twitch your nose in your sleep? It’s pretty adorable” He picked his nails while letting out the last sentence. A maroon coloured blush had crept up on his shoulders and cheeks. He couldn’t handle any more embarrassment but here they found themselves confessing.
Now it was Aethers turn to fall awkward for the first time today, mouth opening and closing trying to find a response to the compliment. They hadn’t expected that from the other ghoul, with him being nervous 24/7. A moments pause he replied, regaining his natural confidence “Oh really?” A huge grin had been plastered all over Aeths face, grabbing Rain’s face, palms on both sides of his cheeks. Holding his face, the ghoul made sure their shared eye contact wouldn’t stop. Midnight blue meeting Chocolate brown, the water ghoul felt all the air leave his lungs.
“You think I’m cute dear Rainy?” Aether held an intense stare while they continued to tease. Rain was so visibly flustered, he was sure he could hear its heart pounding once again. The smaller ghoul could only respond with a small high pitched squeak. He found himself moving his glances from one eye to another, eventually moving to the spot he couldn’t stop thinking about. Aethers lips. Since noticing them before, it was all Rain thought about while falling asleep, he desperately wanted to know the feeling of his meeting with theirs. How perfect they would fit together. Sharing tongue and spit, having to push away needing a breather before going back in,This was more of an extra thought for when he was alone. Rain furrowed his thick heavy brows at.
Aether had spotted the staring at his lips from Rain and had quirked one of his eyebrows up. Still holding onto his face, the Quintessence ghoul tilted it up more so their eyes met back up again. Slowly Aether brought their lips closer together. Connecting them together and closing his eyes, this further sudden action had caused a now loud surprised whine out of Rain, shoulders tensing up, hands nervously dancing over Aethers sides.
The touch made Aether groan into the water ghouls mouth, getting more comfortable, they pulled Rain into his lap. Leaving his hands from gripping his face to also moving to the others sides. Spit and small noises echoed throughout the once silent room.
Rain felt his whole body on fire, it even questioned if his element had suddenly changed from the kiss. It was everything he had wished and more. Aethers lips were perfect against his, it couldn’t find one fault. His grip on the ghouls sides made rain feel dizzy, he wanted this feeling every second, every minute and every day.
It felt like hours that they had been kissing,Aether could’ve sworn it was night time when they stopped. Rain unfortunately having to be the one to push away, disconnecting their both swollen lips. They could both feel a new plumpness to them, having been sucking on eachothers bottom lip.
Loud breaths now replaced the slick noises, chests heaving from the lack of air. Aether was the first to talk, already knowing Rain enjoyed it they still wanted to double check. It was just part of his nature to ensure everyone was always comfortable.
Slowing his breathing down to a normal pace he spoke. “ I’m, mh that was really good, I’m guessing you liked it too. How haven’t we done that sooner?” Flustered Aether was definitely Rains favourite kind of Aether, now that he had witnessed it.
“I mean, I’ve wanted to since i got here, i just didn’t see a appropriate time to come and just kiss you” Rain finally let his breath out while replying. He picked up one of Aethers hands and fiddled with his fingers
Aether frowned to himself watching Rain using his free hand he made the other ghoul make eye contact with him again.
“Hey, I don’t want you to go all quiet and awkward one me now yeah? I’ve wanted to kiss you too,practically since i layed eyes on you” His voice was gentle but still had a stern tone to show he meant what he was saying to Rain.
“I don’t want you thinking you have to avoid me and pretend it never happened,
He continued.
“I mean all the other ghouls feel very much the same as me. I know you’re new around here, so we didn’t want to bring it up straight away and scare you away but me and the other ghouls are all together. We have really been wanting to invite you to join. You obviously don’t have to answer now but we would really really love to have you darling” Both still making eye contact together, Rain felt like his heart was about to explode.
Taking a moment to process and think over everything that had happened and what Aether had offered, he pulled the ghoul closer to him and kissed them again. Not as long as the first kiss but still just as good.
Smiling against Aethers lips Rain spoke again. “Hopefully that answers your question”
